How do you cope with an aging mom?  So many assume this is the eldest daughter’s job. However, when the one who steps in and steps up had to be a son, things might be different.  What do you need to overcome, as a son, to help your mom bathe, or dress, or even use the toilet when you’re her son?  The same kinds of challenges can hold true with daughters and their dads. How will you hold it all together?

Pride and modesty will need to take a backseat for necessity and practicality. Creativity and empathy can help you move forward.  Here’s one son’s story on how offering a cup of tea to his mom, while on the commode, helped him move forward, with more strength on his caregiving journey.

There’s more in store here!

GUEST: Mark Steven Porro is an award-winning designer, writer, and director. He has written lots of jokes, several screenplays, and one award-winning short film. A Cup of Tea on the Commode—a sad, sweet, and funny debut memoir—chronicles his multitasking adventures of filling his mother’s last years with love, laughter, and joy. Though not always successful, he came pretty damn close. A native of New Jersey, (Exit 163), where he moved back to from his then home in Hollywood so that he could care for his mother when she needed him the most. He now lives in the South of France. But hold your pity. He of sound mind and body chose to suffer in the heart of wine country where the locals insist his French isn’t so bad—at least that’s what he thinks they’re saying.
